GOVERNOR THOMPSON DECLARES DIGGERS HOTLINE WEEK
Governor Tommy G. Thompson has, for the 13th year, proclaimed Diggers Hotline Week for the state of Wisconsin. This year, Diggers Hotline Week was May 14th through the 20th.
The proclamation reads;
"WHEREAS, Diggers Hotline, Inc., is Wisconsins nonprofit, one-call notification service to help the general public and professional excavators obtain information on the location of underground cables and mains, and safe-working clearances from overhead lines; and
WHEREAS, Diggers Hotline recognizes that digging near underground facilities or working by overhead lines can be hazardous and, through its educational efforts, works to increase public awareness about the importance of calling before digging or working near overhead lines; and
WHEREAS, Diggers Hotline works to increase worker and public safety, prevent damage to
underground and overhead facilities and , thus, ensure the continuity of utility and
communication services; and
WHEREAS, Diggers Hotline provides a convenient means for anyone involved in excavation whether planning the work, or actually doing the work to ensure their personal safety and to comply with Wisconsin State law regarding excavation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, TOMMY G. THOMPSON, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, do hereby proclaim May 14 through May 20, 2000 as DIGGERS HOTLINE WEEK in the state of Wisconsin and I commend this observance to all citizens."
Mr. Jeffrey D. Martens, Vice President of Operations, explains what a proclamation like this means to Diggers Hotline, "When it comes to damage prevention and support of the one call center, Governor Thompson continues to show his concern for the individuals of the state by recognizing the importance of Diggers Hotline and the excavation laws."
