Governor Walker Declares May 16-22
as Diggers Hotline Week

Governor Scott Walker has declared that May 16-22 will be Diggers Hotline Week throughout the state of Wisconsin.  This is the 21st year that the state has announced an official week dedicated to Diggers Hotline and safe digging.

“It is very important that we get the word out to residents of Wisconsin that they need to know what's below before digging," Diggers Hotline spokesperson Chad Krueger said. "This proclamation from Governor Walker helps in our goal of educating people about our free service that helps keep Wisconsin citizens safe."

Diggers Hotline coordinates activities between excavators and utilities such as phone, electric, cable, water and natural gas to mark dangerous and costly underground and overhead utilities around homes and professional job sites.  Representatives from Diggers Hotline recently completed a statewide outreach tour that included more than 60 presentations to professional excavators about the free statewide service.

Diggers Hotline is an independent, free service for anyone doing excavation work in Wisconsin.  Over 1,100 utilities and other buried facility owners are members of Diggers Hotline.  Wisconsin state law requires all excavators – including homeowners and construction contractors – to contact Diggers Hotline at least three working days before starting any digging.

Diggers Hotline is Wisconsin's one-call center. Anyone in the state who is digging, excavating or disturbing the soil is required by law to contact Diggers Hotline at least three working days before beginning work.
