Governor Announces Diggers Hotline Week

Gov. Doyle announces the Diggers Hotline week will be July 25-31, 2004

Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle has announced that Diggers Hotline Week will be observed July 25-31, 2004.

This marks the 16th consecutive year that Diggers Hotline has been recognized by the Governor of Wisconsin. The declaration denotes the importance of Diggers Hotline as a necessary element in ensuring safety at excavation sites and where work is taking place near overhead lines.

Diggers Hotline is a free service for anyone doing excavation work in Wisconsin, including planting a tree, putting up a fence or installing a flag pole.An independent, not-for-profit organization, Diggers Hotline processed over 711,500 incoming locate requests and made 3.9 million notifications to state facility owners in 2003. Over 1,000 facility owners are currently members of Diggers Hotline.

Diggers Hotline is Wisconsin's one-call center. Anyone in the state who is digging, excavating or disturbing the soil is required by law to contact Diggers Hotline at least three working days before beginning work.
