Melinda Myers will be teaming up with Diggers Hotline and its “Call 811 Before You Dig” message during her Wisconsin appearances this year, including all 22 of her gardening presentations at the Wisconsin State Fair in August.
“Partnering with Diggers Hotline is such a natural fit. Their message about calling 811 at least three working days before you dig is an important one and it’s essential to keeping people safe whether they’re planting flowers, adding a vegetable garden, or making some major landscape renovations,” said Melinda Myers. “As I’m out and about presenting to gardeners, I’m looking forward to encouraging people to call Diggers Hotline or file a locate request online before they do any inground digging to insure that safety is the #1 priority.”
Diggers Hotline is a free service for anyone digging in Wisconsin that helps identify the location of buried utility lines. Damaging these lines with a shovel or any other digging equipment can lead to injury or costly repair bills. State law says that any digging project, including small projects like a garden or a backyard deck, requires contacting Diggers Hotline at least three working days before starting the project. Wisconsin residents can contact Diggers Hotline by dialing 811 or filing a locate request.
